The gaming community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata. Mr. Iwata died of bile duct cancer.
As a mark of respect for the legendary president, Nintendo halted all activities on its social network accounts.
“He was a visionary in every sense of the word and we will miss him dearly. Just as Mr Iwata challenged us to always push forward, we will ensure his legacy lives on through our ongoing work to always surprise and delight our fans. At this time our thoughts are with his family,” said Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo Europe president.
Mr. Iwata had great influence on Nintendo biggest titles, including Mario series, Pokemon series, Zelda and Animal Crossing. He was appointed president in 2002, taking over from Hiroshi Yamauchi.
Shigeru Miyamoto is widely believed to succeed Iwata. At this point, Nintendo is yet to release an official statement. Mr. Iwata will surely be missed; his legacies will live on forever.
