The brain behind one of Africa’s most successful startups iROKOtv revealed through his twitter handle that the desktop version of the iROKOtv.com has been shut-down.
And its done. @irokotv goes mobile only. Download and discover amazing content across Africa. http://t.co/47HVYHkidv

It’s likely the move is carried out to cut down over-all cost of running the company. In May, leading e-commerce merchant in Nigeria Konga also shut-down its desktop site, requesting customers to download and use the Konga app for its Konga app sale mega promotions.
While Konga didn’t announce any plans for going app-only, the experiment could be the foundation of “actually” going app-only in future. Indian e-commerce firm Flipkart took the decision some months ago, shutting down its desktop and mobile websites to become a sole app-only platform.
For now, iROKOtv is only available on Google Play. Android users have been given preferential treatment in Jason Njoku’s iROKOtv business philosophy. It is not clear when BlackBerry, iOS and Windows Mobile users would get similar access.
